Dharma Holistic Center is based on treating the “whole” person, taking into consideration the mental, emotional, physical, social and spiritual.
The Dharma Institute is a small organization created in 2006 by Dr. Cristina Sabroso and several other contributing partners, psychotherapists and educators with a lot of love and dedication to the community.
The core mission of the Institute is to provide affordable psychotherapy and educational services to those who are not otherwise able to afford these services from therapists in private practice or from community mental health agencies. The goal is to provide quality counseling services where the duration and style of therapy is determined by the needs of the client rather than by limits imposed by insurance companies, managed health care or limited income.
The values upon which the Dharma Institute was founded were that everyone, no matter their age, race, or socioeconomic status, is entitled to the best possible mental health treatment, utilizing the most up-to-date holistic treatment methodologies, in a culturally sensitive environment by well-trained, culturally diverse mental health professionals, healers and instructors.
Our goal is to assist individuals with mental and emotional challenges in becoming more productive, independent members of society as a result of our above-stated Mission, by engaging in continuous quality improvement practices in an attempt to ensure optimal treatment outcomes for the recipients of our services and to educate/train new therapists in the important field of psychology.
Our therapists are mainly graduates of the Masters of Psychology program at Carlos Albizu and Barry Universities. Each therapist discusses our philosophy and holistic approach with clients before treatment begins. The therapists are Florida licensed or registered mental health/marriage and family counselors pursuing their full licensure and completion of their required hours of training and supervision. Several faculty members of Carlos Albizu University Master’s program serve as consultants and supervisors to the therapists.
We are grateful for donations from the community. All donation and fee for service monies received go towards the cost of operating the Institute and to be able to cover the professional treatment expenses of our pro-bono and low income patients. The therapists, supervisors, and other professionals all work on volunteer basis or reduced fees to contribute to our mission. Since we are a Holistic center, we also financially share/contribute to other supportive institutions like the Wat Buddharangsi Temple who lovingly send their monks and Lamas to teach some of our meditation classes.
